This Privacy Policy describes how ScentedHuman (“ScentedHuman”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when using this website and related services (the “Service”).
Information collected
Account information
When creating an account, information such as username, email address, and password is collected. Passwords are stored using secure hashing and are not stored in plain text.
Content and usage data
The Service stores data created by users, such as wardrobe items, ratings, wear history (“Scent of the Day” entries), notes, and reviews. The Service may also collect basic usage and diagnostic information (for example, timestamps, pages accessed, and error logs) to help operate and improve the Service.
Cookies and similar technologies
The Service uses cookies necessary for authentication and security (for example, keeping users signed in and protecting against fraudulent requests). Additional cookies may be used for preferences and analytics if enabled.
Security and network data
To prevent automated account creation, fraud, and abuse, the Service records IP addresses, approximate IP network, browser user-agent, timestamps, and the outcome of registration and sign-in attempts. An account may retain the IP address used to register and the IP address used for its most recent successful sign-in. Registration uses a self-hosted proof-of-work check; this check does not send visitor data to a third-party CAPTCHA provider.
How information is used
- Provide and maintain the Service (account access, wardrobe features, and other functionality).
- Send account-related emails, such as email verification and password reset messages.
- Protect the Service and users (security, fraud prevention, and abuse detection).
- Diagnose issues and improve performance and user experience.
- Comply with legal obligations when required.
Sharing of information
ScentedHuman does not sell personal information. Information may be shared only as needed in the following cases:
- Service providers: vendors that help operate the Service (for example, email delivery or hosting). They are permitted to process information only to provide services on our behalf.
- Legal and safety: to comply with law, enforce policies, or protect rights, property, and safety.
- Public content: if a user chooses to publish a review, that review may be visible to other users or the public depending on the feature. Usernames may be displayed with public content.
Data retention
Account and user-created content is retained while an account remains active. Data may also be retained for a limited period after deletion requests as required for legal, security, and operational purposes (for example, backups).
Detailed registration and sign-in security events are normally retained for 90 days. Registration and latest-sign-in IP addresses stored with an account are retained with that account. Active and historical IP block records may be retained for security administration and auditing.
Security
Reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards are used to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
Your choices
- You can update certain profile information within the Service if those features are available.
- You can choose whether to publish content (like reviews) if the feature is available.
- You can request account deletion by contacting us (see “Contact”).
Children’s privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). If information is believed to have been collected from a child, contact us to request deletion.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. The “Effective date” above will be updated when changes are posted.
